Let me take a moment and introduce myself,
I’m not your son, your daughter, husband or wife
Me, I am the better part – their addiction,
I am a mask that hides my true self from you
They love me more than anything, and I love them,
For their every waking moment is devoted to me,
and I want to take a moment and say thank you,
For those that speak without compassion,
I speak to them of my true love,
For those that look at them and say I’m done,
I remind them, I will always be here for them,
For those that give them money,
I say thank you for feeding me,
For those that keep them out of jail,
I say: I’m happy you’re not keeping them away from me,
For those that have a broken heart,
I say they will only ever know my heart,
For those that only know how to shout,
I say there will be no shame from me,
For those that no longer pray for help,
I say thank you, for God wasn’t listening,
For those that enable them in the name of love,
I say thank you for not showing them their pain,
For those that say they can’t do anything,
I say, please do nothing different,
For those that have chosen to hide,
I say thank you for not reaching out for help,
See, I truly love you more than them,
they are nothing but a vessel of my destruction,
you, however are my puppet on a string,
to yank and pull at my every whim,
I speak words you should never listen to,
because I am your lair and you know it,
you ask – why do I love you so,
the reason is simple and even you know,
the answers have been given to you by others,
but still you’d rather listen and believe my lies,
you are afraid and frozen because death can come,
but the truth is if you don’t do something I’ll take them,
My words aren’t meant to bring sadness or shame,
They are filled with love to you and thanksgivings,
Without you doing what you need to do,
I have a soul mate until their very last breath,
So don’t listen to those that have the answers,
Those that have been there and beaten me,
For as long as you make no changes both you and them are mine.
